The base of the Productivity Quadrant is similar to the “Eisenhower Method,” which stems from a quote attributed to Dwight D. Eisenhower:

“I have two kinds of problems, the urgent and the important. The urgent are not important, and the important are never urgent.”

Although the main framework of the Eisenhower Method is a great way to help with prioritization in software products, it’s not a 1:1 transfer. In order to make the method workable for product leaders, we adjusted the framework taking product planning into account and created the Mobile Product Manager’s Productivity Quadrant.

You’ll notice a few differences in the Mobile Product Manager’s Productivity Quadrant from the traditional model. While the “Do” and “Delete” quadrants from the original method are obvious and applicable to product management, the “Decide” and “Delegate” categories are less so. For example, product managers rarely have the luxury of delegating tasks to another person/team, which means the traditional Eisenhower approach to that piece of the quadrant doesn’t work.
